Science Education serves undergraduates through Liberal Arts Core courses and science teacher preparation. The program provides three special courses in liberal arts science specifically for elementary education majors – Inquiry into Earth Science, Inquiry into Life Science and Inquiry into Physical Science. Each emphasizes an inquiry, a science process teaching approach and is based on content standards. The basic science minor (K-8) requires these three courses and builds on them to give elementary education majors special preparation to teach science. For secondary science teaching—there are six science teaching majors—four of them are in the specific science disciplines of earth science, biology, chemistry and physics, and two are interdisciplinary majors, including all sciences and middle/junior high science teaching.
