The following scholarships are available to current UNI students. You are encouraged to apply for the general CNS scholarships as this will make you eligible for all of the scholarships that CNS offers for which you qualify as well as the Science Education scholarships.

Science Teaching Scholarships
For 2009-2010

  For current UNI Science Teaching majors

This will make you eligible for all Science Teaching scholarships, which are available for Biology Teaching, Chemistry Teaching, Earth Science Teaching, Physics Teaching, All Science Teaching, and Middle/Junior High Science Teaching majors.

Deadline: February 15 - extended to March 1

Complete application includes:
1. Online Common Scholarship Application for Undergraduates
2. Statement of teaching goals. Upload My Statement (do NOT forget this!)
3.
Submit Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) (required for the Floyd and Orhtmann Scholarships)
4. List the names of 2 professors who could be contacted by the committee for a recommendation.

 

Grace Ohrtman Endowed Scholarship

Guidelines
The fund is to be used to provide scholarship support, including room board & tuition, for needy Science Education majors who intend to teach for at least 3 yrs in Iowa upon graduation.

Requirements
Must have a FAFSA on file with Financial Aid.
Must be in good academic standing and indicate intent to teach in Iowa.

James & Cynthia Kenyon Endowed Scholarship

Guidelines
Recipient shall be a graduate of Cedar Falls High School in Cedar Falls IA; a major in the College of Natural Sciences, with preference given to Science Education (teaching).
Requirements
Must be in good academic standing

Gary and Myrna Floyd Endowed Scholarship

Guidelines
The recipient should be in one of three programs: All Science Teaching, Middle/Junior High School Science Teaching, or Biology Major-Teaching.
Requirements
Must have a FAFSA on file with Financial Aid.
Demonstrate merit and financial need with preference given to students entering their senior year.

Albert A. Potter Endowed Science Scholarship

Guidelines
Recipient should have a major or minor in science education (All Sciences or Middle/Jr. High Science) or a major in Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science or Physics with a teacher preparation program.
Requirements
A minimum of 65 cr. hrs. (completed /enrolled in) and a declared science (teaching) major is required. A declaration of, and official admittance to, the teacher education program at UNI.
Consideration given to Overall GPA, GPA in the teaching major and Professional Education sequence, financial need, and indication of promise of successful secondary science teaching

College of Natural Sciences Scholarships
For 2009-2010

For current College of Natural Science majors:

  1. Deadline: February 15 - extended to March 1

    To be eligible for general CNS scholarships, you must complete the following

    2. Provide a statement of educational and career goals. Upload My Statement
    3.
    Answer the two questions below.

The following scholarship requires additional materials (as stated below):

2. Two letters of recommendation from faculty in your major or minor department. (provide names)

CW Lantz

Guidelines
The purpose of this scholarship is to assist and encourage worthy senior student in the fields of biology, chemistry, earth science, physics, science, and science education.
Requirements
Applicants must have at least s 3.00 BGPA overall and must have completed a minimum of 48 hours (at least 32 at UNI) at the time of application.

Student First Scholarship

Guidelines The purpose of this scholarship is to assist and encourage worthy students majoring in the College of Natural Sciences.
Requirements
Applicants must have at least a 3.00 GPA overall.

Clifford McCollum

Guidelines
The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize undergraduate student scholarships and service in the College of Natural Sciences and to acknowledge the potential for future professional development.
Requirements
Applicants must have a major in the College of Natural Science, at least a 3.25 BPA overall, and a minimum of 90 semester hours of credit (at least 45 from UNI).

Irene M. Thompson Scholarship

Guidelines
All undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Natural Sciences who are continuing at UNI are eligible.
Requirements
Contribution as a student to the total program of the College and department is the primary criterion.
